WEST, CHARLES VERNON died 24 Aug 1987 Comment
Services Held For Vernon West - Funeral services were held Wednesday evening for Charles Vernon West, 63, a longtime prominent local resident who passed away Monday at Scott County Hospital following a lengthy illness. A retired funeral director, he and his father, the late Lee West, established West Funeral Home in Oneida in 1949 and operated the business for a number of years. He was also a longtime member of the Oneida Loins Club, and was a member of the Huntsville Presbyterian Church. He was also a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific Theater of operations. Among Mr. West's survivors are two sons whose teams advanced to state tournament play this year, Chuck West, head boys basketball coach at Dresden, and Tim West, assistant girls basketball and head fastpitch softball coach at Oneida. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth West of Rt. 3, Oneida; three sons: Chuck West of Dresden, and Marvin West and Tim West, both of Oneida; two daughters: Mary Beth Armstrong and Melanie Ann Duncan, both of Oneida; his mother, Grace West of Oneida; a sister, Lois Lee Harris of Ft. Myers, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and a number of other relatives and friends. Services were conducted Wednesday at 8 p.m. in the chapel of West-Murley Funeral Home, with Rev. Chuck Boonstra and Rev. Phillip Kazee officiating. Private graveside services were scheduled to he held today (Thursday) at Carson Memorial Park. In Lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Scott County chapter of the American Cancer Society. (Source: The Scott County News, 27 Aug 1987, p1)
