PHILLIPS, HUBERT FRANK died 6 Oct 1999 Comment
Hubert Frank Phillips, 76, of Helenwood, died October 6, 1999, at the Scott County Hospital in Oneida. Born in Scott County, June 30, 1923, he was the son of the late James H. and Elsa Kircher Phillips. In addition to his parents, he was preceded also in death by an infant daughter, Judy Phillips; one brother, Eugene Phillips; father and mother-in-law, Everett and Clona Sexton; and four brothers-in-law, D.L. Sexton, Jess Weaver, Claude Coffey, and John Ray Sexton. He was a retired teacher with the Scott County School System, a member of the Retired Teacher's Association of Scott County, and a member of the American Legion. He served his country in both the Korean Conflict and World War II, where he earned the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was a longtime member of Paint Rock Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Flona Lorena Sexton Phillips of Helenwood; two sons, Ronnie Lee Phillips and wife, Carol Jean of Greenwood, Ky., and Kelvin Ree Phillips and wife, Wendy of Helenwood; one daughter, Shirlene Faye Perry and husband, Dr. Larry E. of Oneida; one brother, Crawford Phillips and wife, Gereda of Oneida; one sister, Winnie Elizabeth Sexton; brother-in-law, Lou Nova Sexton; sister-in-law, Charity Phillips; eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild, several nieces and nephews and many other relatives. Funeral service was conducted October 8, 1999, in the chapel of Four Oaks Funeral Home with Rev. Paul D. Barnes and Rev. Harold Dean Ross officiating. Music was provided by Claudette Smith, Debbie Terry, Lou Nova Sexton, and the Coffey Family. Interment followed in Sexton Memorial Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the American Legion Post #136. Four Oaks Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
